Annual Dinner 2026
We returned once again to a restaurant that we had used many times in the past – Chateau Napoleon, now renamed as Coombe Wood House.
The President, Mr Christian Kinmont, welcomed Members and Guests. We went on to have a great evening, with excellent food, wine and service. The President went on to outline his year
Lifetime Achievement Award 2026
Dr Mike Mendall nominated Dr Anothy Brzezicki for the 2026 Lifetime Achievement Award, which is presented annually by Croydon Medical Society.
British Society for the History of Medicine
The Croydon Medical Society now has an affiliate membership of the British Society for the History of Medicine so we will be keeping you up to date on newsletters and links to online talks via the website.
Quiz Night 2025
The quiz was a great success as always and we had 7 teams representing 6 Croydon GP Practices and a team named ‘The Two Nick’s and Friends’. We used a new venue for this year’s quiz which worked extremely well.
Charity support for Lives not Knives
‘Lives Not Knives’ is dedicated to preventing youth violence in London and is the Charity that your President Mr Christian Kinmont has decided to support during his year in office.
Annual Dinner 2025
This year’s Annual Dinner was held at a new venue which was The Grange in Beddington Park. We had an Indian theme and a great time was had watching some brilliant dancing by a trio of Indian girls.

Annual Dinner 2024 at Farleigh Golf Club
On Friday 14 June, a wonderful evening was enjoyed by 65 members and guests at Farleigh Golf Club. The venue and food were excellent. Throughout the evening, we were entertained by Bertie the Magician with lovely background music by Mark Dowling on his piano.
Lifetime Achievement Award 2024 – Dr John Spicer

John’s medical career started when he graduated from Middlesex Hospital Medical School in 1977 (in the same graduation year as Nick Cambridge).
Self-defence lesson by Jim Nayyar
On Wednesday 21st February Jim and his team, (a black belt 3rd Dan in Jujitsu) gave us 2 hours of their time to show CMS members tips on how to defend ourselves against any assault.
Family Fun Day 2023
On Sunday 3 September 2023 we held our second Family Fun Day at Royal Russell School. CMS members and their families plus our guests, Cllr Manju Shahul-Hameed and Cllr Lynne Hale, were welcomed by our President for 2023, Miss Ranee Thakar.

A special moment during our Family Fun Day was when Mr Kambiz Hashemi was presented with a well-deserved Croydon Medical Society Lifetime Achievement Award.
New Year’s Quiz Night 2023
The quiz night held at Purley Downs Golf Club on 18 January 2023 was a fantastic evening! Dr Khalid Khan was again the mastermind behind our annual quiz and it was thought to be the best one yet.
President of the RCOG
Congratulations to Mis Ranee Thakar on becoming the President of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, as well as to her husband Mr Abdul Sultan who has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the British Society of Urogynaecology.

Talk on Charles Dickens, “Bleak Health”
Dr Nick Cambridge joined us at the Croydon Trainers away day at Cumberland Lodge. The title of his talk was ‘Bleak Health: Charles Dickens in the Medical World’. He pointed out that in Dickens time important developments took place in public health and medicine.

Ranee Thakar is a Consultant Obstetrician and Urogynaecologist at Croydon Health Services NHS Trust and Honorary Senior Lecturer at St George’s University of London.
