Presentation to Dr John Manners

On the afternoon of the 8th July Anne and I travelled separately to the home of Dr John Manners, past President and recently retired Hon. Archivist. After such long dedicated service to the Society the committee decided that it would be fitting to present John with something to acknowledge his service.

In normal circumstances this would be presented at a meeting, either the AGM or the Annual Dinner. As we are unlikely to meet for many months in these unprecedented times we presented John with an engraved tankard face to face in the presence of his wife Gillian in their front garden, strictly adhering to social distancing!

It was very nice to be able to thank John in person for his many years of support for the Society and we had a very pleasant chat after which Anne and I were both presented with a lovely bouquet of fragrant flowers picked by Gillian from their garden.

Let’s hope we will all be able to meet properly before too long.

Stay safe
